BAUBLE SIDES (make 2)
Make a magic ring and jump to ROUND 1 or;
BASE RING Ch 4 and sl st into 1st ch to form a ring.
ROUND 1 Ch 3, (counts as 1 tr), 9 tr into the ring, sl st into the 3rd of ch-3 to join round. Fasten off. (10 sts made)
ROUND 2 Using next colour, join yarn into any st with a sl st, 3 ch (counts as 1 tr) tr 2 tog into same st, 2 ch * tr 3 tog into next st, 2 ch; rep from * to end. Sl st to join. Fasten off (10 clusters with 2-ch sp made).
ROUND 3 Using next colour, join yarn into any 2-ch sp made on the previous round with a sl st, 3 ch (counts as 1tr), tr 3 tog into same st, 2 ch, *tr 4 tog into next ch sp, 2 ch; rep from * to end, sl st to join. Fasten off. (10 clusters with 2-ch sp made).
ROUND 4 Using next colour (or one previously used), join into any 2-ch sp made on the previous round with a sl st. Ch 2 (counts as 1dc), 3 dc into the same ch sp, 4 dc into each ch-sp to end. Sl st to join. Fasten off. (40 sts made)
ROUND 5 Using next colour (or one previously used), join yarn into any st made on previous round. Ch 1, 1 dc into same stitch, 1 ch, skip next st, * 1 dc into next st, 1 ch, skip next st; rep from * to end. Sl st to join. Fasten off leaving a long tail of yarn for sewing up the 2 sides.
ROUND 6 Using next colour (or one previously used), join yarn into any 1-ch sp made on previous round. Ch 1, 1 dc into same stitch * 1 ch, skip next st, 1 dc into next ch sp, *; rep from * to end. Sl st to join. Fasten off.
ROUND 7 Using next colour (or one previously used), join yarn into any ch-sp made on previous round. Ch 1, 1dc into same ch-sp. Continue with 1 dc in each st to end. Sl st to join. Fasten off.
Measure the crochet half by placing it over the bauble and checking if it covers the 1st half. Although it may feel rather snug, it needs to be fairly tight so that when you join the 2 sides together, the bauble remains firm. If it looks to small then just continue repeating round 7 until it is the correct size.
MAKING UP
Darn in all the ends. Using the long tail of yarn join the 2 sides together. When you have sewn about 2/3rds of the seam, insert the bauble and continue to sew the seam all the way round. Fasten off and darn in the end. Attach a length of ribbon to the finished bauble ready for hanging.
