Winchester is surrounded by the most beautiful natural woodlands and open countryside which I love to explore with Bella, my cocker spaniel.
Inspired by my daily walks, Bella Beanie is a beautifully soft beanie hat, created using a combination of cable and mock cable stitches.
Stockbridge Down
If you have not tried working with cable stitches before, Bella Beanie is a perfect project to begin with. Surprisingly, knitting cables are quite simple to do and are made by swapping the order in which you knit stitches and by crossing one set of stitches over another.
Bella Beanie is worked in the round from the bottom up. Beginning with a rib which flows into the cable and slip stitch pattern and ends with a softly gathered crown worked on double pointed needles.
For this project I have chosen the deliciously soft Kid Classic Aran weight yarn by Rowan, the well established wool brand based in Holmfirth in Yorkshire.
This course taught over 2 x 2.5 hour workshops will take you step by step through all the different techniques you will need.
As an Improvers Course, ideally you should be able to knit, purl and rib comfortably.
NB The workshops are spaced apart over a fortnight to give time to knit the main part of the hat without feeling rushed.
