Match Cardigan KAL (knit-along) Course
Week 1 FEB 5th 10 – 12.30pm (extended session)
Week 2 FEB 26th 10 – 12pm
Week 3 MAR 11th 10 – 12pm
Week 4 MAR 18th 10 – 12pm
Over a series of 4 workshops, I will teach you all the different techniques needed for knitting this classic raglan cardigan constructed from the top down, worked flat and in the round (sleeves) in stocking stitch.
Each session is carefully structured for the different abilities in the class and supported with worksheets to help you with any new techniques.
NB I have spaced out the workshops so that you will have time to knit each section without feeling rushed.
Match Cardigan designed by Caidree
Match Cardigan is a fun, quick cardigan to knit, designed by Caidree. Her collection of patterns can be found on Ravelry, a wonderful networking website for patterns and designers.
NB For this KAL you will need to purchase the pattern Match Cardigan directly from Ravelry for your PDF download.
When you have purchased and downloaded your Match pattern, you will be able to read more information about sizing.
Match KAL Project
Most independent knitting designers will suggest specific yarn brands for their projects. Although beautiful yarns, they can be both expensive and tricky to source.
For this KAL project I wanted to offer you alternatives to consider, so have knitted 3 cardigans, in 3 different wools, for 3 very different results and budgets to help you decide which wool to choose.
With these yarn suggestions, you can then buy your chosen wool in advance and by knitting a tension square you will be able to decide the best needle sizes for the project.
If you are unsure about how to knit a tension square or about choosing yarns etc, my Pattern Prep workshop will give you all the help you need for this or any future projects.
Yarn Suggestions
-
CaMa Rose ‘Snefnug’ held together with Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair
Total Cost (size 1) approx. £77
Yarn – 5 x 50gms Snefnug and 3 x 25gms Soft Silk Mohair. Needles – No 8, No 7 and No 6
This is a similar yarn combination given in the pattern by Caidree. The wools create a super soft, fabric combining baby alpaca, cotton & merino wool held together with mohair & silk. A luxurious combination! The final drape is loose and relaxed.
(NB you will need to knit with 2 yarns held together throughout which does take a little practice)
Total Cost (size 1) approx. £41
Yarn – 5 x 50gms. Needles – No 7, No 6, and No 5
This yarn creates a more sturdy drape and the stitches are clear and well defined. This yarn works very well and I think the cardigan will retain its neat more structured shape better than the previous one.
-
Sirdar ‘Jewelspun’ chunky yarn with wool
Total Cost (size 1) approx £23
Yarn – 2 x 200gms. Needles – No 7, No 6, and No 5
This is such a fun version! I loved seeing how the colour randomly changes as you knit. A lovely soft, squishy relaxed drape and a very economical yarn to use.
OTHER MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED
As experienced knitters, you will have your own preferred needles to work with, but please email me if you would like advice for purchasing circular needles for knitting in the round.
