Zoom Project 3

In this workshop you will be given step-by-step instructions with a PDF pattern and worksheet for you to download with clear photos and links to 5 mini videos, which you can watch in your own time.

There will also be an invitation to a Zoom session (around 40 mins) where we will talk over specific areas about the project and you can ask me any questions.

I will be keeping these Zoom sessions small, with a maximum of 5 people.

 Lace Project

Lacework knitting is a beautiful technique to try. On a simple level,  lace is made up of a series of holes arranged in patterns formed by a combination of increasing stitches and decreasing stitches. It takes a bit of concentration to begin with but with practice is a lovely skill to work with.

 Lace Scarf

In this project you will be making this beautiful contemporary Lace scarf. I have based this project around the original Archway Lace pattern by Purl Soho, the inspirational online yarn store in New York.

If you wish to knit the full shawl wrap pattern, just click on the link above for the complete download.

For this project I have reduced the number of stitches to cast on for a quicker knit and added a simple garter border along each side. As with other techniques such as Fair Isle knitting, charts are used to show how the lace pattern will look and identify where you are.

In the worksheet I have provided both a simple chart as well as line by line text instructions.

Step by step videos to watch alongside the pattern will clearly show you how to begin lace knitting aswell as other useful techniques.

These include;

  • Long-tail cast off
  • Reading and understanding lace stitch terminology
  • Reading a simple lace chart
  • How to add and use a life-line
  • Blocking your finished work

I have used Creative Linen by Rowan in Foggy. This 50% linen/50% cotton comes in range of lovely shades and is a perfect yarn to use for this summery scarf.

Below I have added a link to Wool Warehouse online shop where you will be able to buy the yarn.
