Isla ~ Fair Isle Hat Project

For more experienced knitters, my hat design Isla is based on a traditional stranded colour-work Fair Isle pattern.

When knitting a hat, traditional Fair Isle is usually worked in the round on circular needles or on a set of double pointed needles. This way the right-side of the knitting is always facing you, making it easier to see the pattern as you knit.

In this online project I have compiled a complete worksheet taking you through each stage of the pattern. I show you how to join your knitting in the round, read from a Fair Isle Chart and move on to double pointed needles when working the shaping of the crown.

Isla uses just two colours and by changing the order of the colours you can create two very different effects. In the pattern I have given you two Fair Isle Charts so that you can knit both hats in either colour-way.
