KAL Patchwork Cushion

I have designed this simple free KAL (knit along) project for you to enjoy making…there is no need to sign up to have a go.

Although the end result may look complicated the stitches are fairly simple to learn. This a great project if you have just started learning to knit or just wish to have a little project to work on over the coming weeks.

For this patchwork pattern I have incorporated 3 three different swatch designs, Mock Cable, Trellis & Honeycomb.

There are a total of nine swatch squares to be made. When all nine squares are complete, they are sewn together to make this contemporary patchwork cushion cover ready for summer.

I have used Drops Big Merino yarn in Forget Me Not. This is a beautiful yarn, which when knitted produces a clear stitch definition, almost like a cotton yarn.  I think this works perfectly for this project, although any substitute aran weight yarn could work well.

  • You will need approx 225 metres of yarn in total.
  • Tension ~ 17 stitches and 22 rows for a 10x10cm tension square using 5mm needles

I have backed the cushion with a piece of denim-coloured indigo cotton to contrast with the yarn. You can obviously choose any fabric to go with your yarn shade or to co ordinate with you interiors.

Here is a list of materials you will need. To make things easy, I have chosen all the materials from Wool Warehouse. If you click on each item highlighted you will be taken directly to their website.

As a KAL project, each week I will add a new swatch pattern to this page, with simple mini videos you can watch showing you how to construct each stitch combination.

Week 1: Mock Cable Swatch (x 4 to be made)

Week 2: Trellis Swatch (x 4 to be made)

Week 3: Honeycomb Swatch (x 1 to be made) & finishing techniques.

Week 4: Making Up

At the end of the KAL project you will also be able to buy the complete PDF pattern from Ravelry.
